Rob spent 7 wonderful years in the British art school system graduating with a Post Graduate in Illustration from Central Saint Martins, he then embarked on a successful career in illustration. He worked with a diverse range of clients including publishing houses, global corporates and created large scale works for the public realm. He began his career working in traditional media but in more recent times he combined this with digital media.

During the pandemic he decided to leave the world of illustration behind to spend more time in his studio and returning to his passion of figurative painting.

His practice now centres around the painting of the full figure using bold bright colours creating joyful celebrations of his sitters

His most recent series White Chair which he exhibited in a solo show in London has a particular focus on the sitters posture and clothing. He was  fascinated by the concept that a sitters choice of clothing for a portrait is carefully considered and is a direct statement of how they would like the world to perceive them. He also believes that by allowing the sitter to find a natural pose their posture subconsciously demonstrates their current mood.

Rob was a distinguished entry in the 2023 Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize and highly commended in the 2023 British Art Prize.

Rob works at scale using vibrant colours combining his representational painting of his subjects with graphic backgrounds influenced by his graphic illustration career.

Rob works from his studio in Surrey.
